Analyzing Barriers to Technology Integration in Schools
In the 1990s at the beginning of the computer revolution in K-12 education, University of California Irvine professor Henry J. Becker investigated why many teachers were slow to integrate computer technology in their professional and instructional practice. At the time, lack of access to technology was one major barrier to technology use in schools, but Becker also found that hectic teaching schedules, curriculum coverage requirements, and lack of professional development and administrative support kept teachers from using new technologies with students. Technology has become a central part of the lives of teachers and students since then but still, Becker’s research remains relevant to today’s schools. What are some attitudes and behaviors toward technology integration in schools?
