1) Select any health policy of your choosing. Rather than picking a topic that is frequently talked about like the cost of medications or abortion, I encourage you to pick a topic the is unusual, not commonly discussed, or something you would like to learn a little more about. Issues like research and insurance coverage for diseases that impact certainly ethnicities, religious beliefs and medical care (such as Jehovah’s Witness followers feel blood transfusions go against their beliefs). Other issues like access to care for marginalized citizens such as the homeless, the quality of care provided to veterans or Native Americans. These are just a few ideas for you, there are many more.
2) Briefly summarize your health policy topic in two or three paragraphs. (5 points).
3) Identify at least five stakeholders and one interest group. For each stakeholder and interest group state if they would be in support or against the health policy, and why. You must identify at least one stakeholder in support and one against the health policy. (10 points)
4) Which stakeholders have the most power and which stakeholders have the least power? In detail, justify your response. (5 points).
5) What is the best way to impact or change the health policy you have selected (Force, influence or authority)? Recall the example from the textbook regarding the red traffic signal. In this instance we stop due to all three factors – force, influence and authority. So, your response can be one, two, or all three of these methods. Be sure to justify your response, (5 points).
