Contact the National Center for Health Statistics Web site and investigate the health statistics of a topic (i.e. accidents or unintentional injuries). In the question thread, make three recommendations about how the specific statistics they find might be used to improve health, plan a health education/promotion program, or allocate funds.

Make three recommendations about how the specific statistics you found might be used to improve health, plan a health education/promotion program, or allocate funds. What are some ideas around what those plans or promotions might be? Please attach the link from post at the end of the discussion to show where you find this info from (1 info about disease and the other 1 for prevention). Note: I want to write about Alzheimer’s disease.
Below is 2 examples, please answer to these 2 posts!

First student post: Cerebralvascular disease (stroke)
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the number of adults in the United States that had a stroke was approximately 7.8 million people. It is also stated that 2.2 million people visits their physician’s office with stroke as the primary diagnosis. Cerebrovascular disease and stroke is known to be in rank number five of the leading causes of death in the United States. The crude rate per 100,000 population for death of this medical problem is 45.7 percent. One way I believe that would significantly improve heart disease leading into strokes and other underlying cardiovascular conditions is to establish free fitness programs for public schools (including universities). Students are prone to getting stressed and sometimes develop very unhealthy eating habits, especially foods with high fats and sugar. If gyms and fitness programs are available for free for students outside of academics, I think that it would be a great way to promote health and reduce cardiovascular diseases. Another way is to establish seminars and conferences that promote a healthier lifestyle for both fitness, food choices, and stress strategies. Diet and unhealthy food choices play a huge role in what causes heart diseases and stroke. According to the CDC, stress , physical activity, food choices, and smoking all have huge affects on heart problems. Another idea that I have is to establish free monthly or annual wellness checkup drives. I feel that not many people get their regular checkups yearly. Although these types of free wellness checkups may not fully treat people, it can give people an idea of where they are physically and internally. For example, taking their vitals, blood work, and urinalysis helps find underlying problems.

Second student post: Heart disease
Heart disease classifies as the number one leading cause of death based on statistics provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The National Center for Health Statistics provided data from a 2019 National Health Interview Survey showing a morbidity rate of 4.6% of adults having been diagnosed with coronary heart disease at some point in their lives. From 1999-2019 statistics have shown a mortality rate of 659,041 deaths due to heart disease alone. The crude rate of death per 100,000 is 200.8 from heart disease. Heart diseases such as coronary artery disease, ischemic heart disease, and myocardial infection accounted for 6.7% of office-based physician visits in 2016. In 2018, 7.2% of emergency department visits were due to at least one of these heart diseases as well. Consistently ranking number one for cause of death, it is clear that special attention and prevention plans need to be made for this disease. To lower the morbidity rate and prevent heart disease I would propose workplaces to provide their workers with fresh fruits and vegetables daily. It’s very important to maintain healthy blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels to reduce risk of heart disease. I would also propose conducting petitions and campaigns to ban the sale of processed foods and cigarettes, two major contributors to heart disease. In aims to lower physician office visits and emergency room visits I think it would be effective to raise awareness by having booths maybe once a month with posters and flyers describing the types of foods that increase risk of heart disease. These would include information about the dangers of eating too much food high in saturated and trans fat, drinking too much alcohol, and too much salt. One more way I would aim to promote health and reduce heart disease risk would be to conduct a bike marathon twice a year to encourage keeping a healthy weight and and getting regular physical activity. Being overweight or obese can increase risk of heart disease so having some sort of physical activity incorporated in your life is essential to reducing risk. Heart disease has been a number one killer year after year and it is important to take the necessary actions to prevent yourself from getting it.
