This semester you have explored many dimensions of diversity and had a chance to share your thoughts from your personal perspective and also from the perspective of others. In this final exam you get to place yourself in a new environment and see diversity from a different perspective. You have over two weeks to work on this paper, so my expectations are fairly high.
Here is the scenario: Your company is expanding operations into five new countries: India, Egypt, South Korea, Oman, and Jordan. You have been selected as one of the first 10 people from the organization to integrate into the operations already established in these countries. Your company has purchased companies already operating in these countries, so your job is to integrate as seamlessly as possible. This includes learning the language, culture, customs, and traditions. The companies that have been purchased know they will be operating with new management (which includes you) and they have been selected because some of the management already speak at least some English. You must select one of these countries (that you have never lived in before or speak their language) for your new assignment for the next two years.
Undergraduates: Write a 7-10 page paper (double-spaced, 12 point font, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman or Arial, cover page counts towards page count, no Table of Contents needed) that addresses the following:
1. Background on the country (1-2 pages). Discuss diversity issues the country is currently encountering. Consider the major sections of the textbook (race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical/mental challenges, social class, religion, appearance/weight, language/communication, military service, legal, media, marketing, and organizational dimensions).
2. What diversity issues do you expect to encounter (3-4 pages)? Consider the major sections of the textbook (race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, physical/mental challenges, social class, religion, appearance/weight, language/communication, military service, legal, media, marketing, and organizational dimensions).
3. Discuss how you think the people in the organizations you are going to work with are going to treat you (2-3 pages) and the justifications they could use against you.
4. Discuss what the organization could do to help reduce any tensions (1-2 pages).
You need at least 15 references. This shouldn’t be difficult since you have read at least 12 chapters of this book and each chapter is a separate reference. At least 5 of your references should address the first part of the paper (country background).
You can choose the style of reference (APA, Chicago, MLA, Harvard, etc.) but you should have citations in the text and then a Reference section at the end of the paper. The reference section counts towards your page count.
In text citations should look similar to this: Emotional labor has been one of the most researched areas of the past 15 years (Jordan, 2019). Or, According to Jordan (2019) emotional labor has been one of the most researched areas over the past 15 years. Give all authors last names if 2 or 3 authors (Williams, Benning, & Bradford, 2021). Use only the first author and et al. for 4 or more authors (Jones, et al., 2020).
Your reference section is going to have several book chapters. Here is one way to reference book chapters.
