DISCUSSION #6- HEALTHCARE FINANCE, POLICY, AND ADVOCACY

Nurses have a long-standing history in social justice and advocacy, which according to Rector and Stanley 10th Ed., can be defined as “pleading the case of another or championing a cause.” To advocate is to try to influence outcomes that affect people, populations, communities, and systems. As nurses it is our ethical responsible to speak up for others, particularly the most vulnerable members of our society to promote health equity.

For this discussion board, please address the following:

STEP 1:

Present an issue or a problem that you want to address and or a population that you want to advocate for. Conduct a search to see if there are any current legislation related to your issue that you wish to support.
For my own work, one legislation that I have supported that relates to my research, is the Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young Act of 2009 (EARLY Act), as I believe that breast cancer in young women diagnosed before age 40 is a serious public health concern that requires attention and funding to support research and treatment in this vulnerable population.
