Nut Graf – Does the article’s thesis sustain itself throughout the draft?

What questions does the writer want to leave with the reader?
Who are the characters?
Is there a story?
Does it surprise?
Is it the story addressing a necessity?
What are the facts?
How are the facts supported? Think about what were the likely raw material examples that might have served as the major chord or propeller for the narrative.
Can you determine where the writer is gathering their facts?
Who are the sources?
Why would the writer choose these sources?
Are the sources/interview subjects credible?
What kind of story is this?
Does it have the feel of a traditional story?
Does it have a plot?
Does the writer implicate themselves in the piece? Is there an “I” voice? How frequently does it appear? Is it necessary or distracting from the reader absorbing the events covered in the story?
How does the author implicit himself? Is it muted/subdued?
What choices do you think the writer made to reach the conclusion?
Does the story feel complete? Is there something missing? What is it?
The Kicker – What strategy does the writer apply to close the piece? Does the ending dazzle? Does it feel earned, meaning, is it the strongest image or idea that connects to the unfolding of the whole article?
Final thoughts – What is your critical review or takeaway from reviewing this article?
