This is for Cognitive Psychology. The professor states that the five pages can not inclue the titlepage and the work cited page. He states is supposed to be 4-5 pages long so I paid for 5 in order to leave room for the work cited page. (I can do the title page if neccassary). Also, Not sure ifit matters but the textbook we use is: Goldstein, Bruce E. (2019). Cognitive Psychology: Connecting Mind, Research, and Everyday Experience (5th Ed.) Boston, MA: Cengage.

Term Paper Topic
I would like to make my topic about how I use cognitive psychology with learning and implementing a new programming language. In chapter 7, we learn what the best ways of studying and learning are. As I read this, I realized my CIS professor uses these methods to teach us programming. We learn a new command then immediately answer questions and/or implement that command. Then we move onto the next command. I would like to go into even more details about how to use effective studying to learn a programming language. I would also like to talk about how we can continue to use this method when debugging a program even after learning the language. Example: using the “rubber duck” method. This is where I would explain to a rubber duck what the meaning of each line of code is in order to find the problem.

I really like the idea of integrating the two topics – cognition and computer programming…also keep in mind that there’s a whole chapter on language that might also be useful. With integrative papers like this one, I always make sure to remind students that the paper should be primarily cognitive – so spend just a bit of time explaining the non-cognitive topic & the pertinent components of it, but the bulk should be spent on the cognitive aspects. Paper Format
The primary paper in this class will be a short, independent research paper. This paper should demonstrate your mastery of the topics, concepts, and literature presented in this course. That being said, the research paper could take many different forms, including (but not limited to) the following types of papers:
A compare/contrast paper of differing theories or paradigms
A review paper examining the current literature on a specific topic
A critique paper, critiquing the research methods or conclusions for a topic or theory
A research proposal that outlines a research question, hypothesis, and general methods for studying the question
An integrative paper applying a concept/theory to another field or domain
Paper Topic
The main thing that all types of papers will need to have is that they be primarily cognitive psychology in topic – that means picking a topic (or topics) covered in your textbook. Even an integrative paper needs to be mostly about the cognitive aspect of that topic. And just because a topic has the word cognitive in it, that doesn’t mean it is a cognitive psychology topic (for instance, cognitive behavioral therapy is not a cognitive psychology topic). There is a topic approval assignment for you to complete, in order to get feedback on your topic (this is for your benefit). This paper also needs to be a novel paper, written for this course – not one used in another course previously.
Paper Style & Length
Papers are to be in APA 7th Edition style and the body of the paper should be 4-5 pages (this number excludes pages like the title page, abstract, references, etc.) – clear and concise writing is the name of the game. If you are not familiar with APA style, you should make yourself familiar with it – I will provide some resources for you, and I am always happy to answer questions.
Paper Sources
Your paper should have at least 5 primary sources outside of your textbook and assigned readings, and should be empirical articles or from scholarly books. Try to refrain from using web resources. You should also paraphrase your sources, and cite them appropriately, both in text and in a reference section. Refrain from using direct quotes.
Paper Grading
The term paper will make up 15% of your final grade in the course, and will be graded using a rubric that can be viewed on Canvas. For each day the term paper is late, ten percentage points will be deducted from the term paper grade. Your paper will also be entered into TurnItIn.com to check for plagiarism. Your paper should be turned in electronically through Canvas by the due date listed on the syllabus.
