Outline Prompt: Select one topic and draft a working thesis statement. Additionally, complete an outline of your essay. The outline should be detailed enough that anyone reading it should understand your thesis, as well as all your supporting ideas.Your outline should also include a reference page with 6 sources. You do not need to annotate the sources for this step.
To help pick the topic/thesis, you need the information about the final essay below:
Topic Selection & FInal Essay Prompt: The essay should examine how identity
is reflected in communication and how communication and identity are
performed with others.
Compare a text or email conversation between you and a peer and one between you and an older relative or friend (parent, mentor, grandparent etc.). What can you detect about identities being communicated in the conversations? This will likely include age but should move beyond just age differences. Use class readings as well as outside sources to support your analysis and argument. Draw an overall conclusion from your comparison and use this as the focus of your essay.
The final essay is supposed to be 6 pages, double-spaced, so the outline should have enough information to allow for this.
I have attached the class readings, BUT, outside sources should be used as well.
Outside sources do not need to be purely academic articles, however
they do need to be credible. You may pull from professional websites
(e.g. .edu, .org, .gov), newsites (e.g. CNN, FOX, The Atlantic, etc…),
and popular media (Buzzfeed, Vox, etc…).
