Abstract

Notice that the abstract is not indented. The abstract is one paragraph in length and should not exceed 200-250 words. You will not indent this paragraph, but you will indent all other paragraphs in your project. This section should be written LAST after all other sections of the project have been completed. All numbers in this paragraph should be typed as numbers (4) and not in word format (four). There is no indentation to the abstract paragraph. The abstract should be an objective (i.e. unbiased) summary of the information that you learned about your theory through research and a brief overview of each section of your project (without using personal pronouns). You should allow your reader to preview the information so he/she knows whether or not they want to read more. Indicate the global relevance of the theory. Pull from your introduction/conclusion to help you write this section of your project.
Keywords: list five or six keywords separated by commas.

Full Title of Project 3
In this section, you will provide an overview and explanation of the theory. This overview (a minimum of 1 page) should showcase the definition, history, and background of your theory. Begin with an introductory sentence about the theory. Then dive into an explanation of the theory — defining the theory and discussing where the theory was found and how it is applied, in general. You then need to provide a full explanation of your theory. Depending on your theory, you could discuss who is affected, who is impacted, symptoms, cures, etc. Strive to fully explain the theory so that your audience fully understands what that theory means.
Make sure that you use in-text citations in APA format in your paragraphs in order to give credit to the sources you found/used to learn about this theory.
Literature Review
This section should be 2+ pages (1 full paragraph for each source), double spaced. In this section, you will write a literature review of 4+ scholarly sources that describe and summarize research related to your chosen theory.
In your paragraphs, you will recap what researchers currently have to say about this theory. You should cover different current research studies about your theory. In NCLive, these are the studies that follow the IMRAD format [Intro, Methods and Materials, Research, Analysis (sometimes embedded into other sections), and Discussion].
Make sure to use in-text citations in APA format throughout your paragraphs in this section so that your readers can easily follow along as you move from one source to another in your discussion of them.
Note: The Literature Review section is somewhat similar to the paragraphs you wrote on your Annotated Bib, but the citations are not listed in here in full. You will state the authors or other identifiers in an intext format. (Ex: J. Smith (2017) researched … ) It is in more of a standard essay/narrative format. (Your full citations go on the Resources page). See the sample student literature review about sleep deprivation in the Insider’s Guide AW.
Observations
Personal Experience
This section should be 1-1½ pages (3+ paragraphs), double spaced. Note: If you follow the suggested page length for each section, then you will have no problem writing a 6+ page total project on your social science theory.
In this section, you should discuss your answers to these questions: How is this theory apparent in your life? How does it directly affect you, your family/friends, and/or your community? To do so, you will share your observations of an event/activity, survey and/or interview results, and other findings you have personally noted. You will also share specific ways that this theory directly impacts you or someone/a group close to you.
You can use 1st person pronouns to discuss how this theory personally impacts you. However, avoid personal pronouns when exploring how this theory impacts other people/groups that you observed in order to learn more about this theory.
Experience of Others
This section should be 1 ½ to 2 pages. It describes in detail your purpose, methods and findings from your original research done to explore the theory (observation, interview, survey, etc.). Whenever you mention any information that came from your interview/survey or any other source [other than yourself], you need to use in-text citations in APA format.
Conclusion
This section should be around ½ page (2+ paragraphs), double spaced. In this section, you will tie up all loose ends and make connections between the research [in Literature Review] and your personal findings and experiences [in Observation]. To do so, address these questions: What are the social applications and implications of the research? How is this theory and research relevant today? And what is left to find out?

Use this journal to discuss what you have read in Chapter 8 as well as the Theory Response Essay Assignment Sheet/Template. Address such things as: What did you learn? How do the Social Sciences differ from the Humanities and Natural Sciences? How will you move from third person to first in the Personal Observation section, and then back to third in the next section of the essay? What is your opinion about going back and forth from third to first? How does this affect the flow of your writing, if it even does affect it? You can discuss other points; these are just some that come to my mind as I type this.
