Draw on the readings from the first half of the class to answer the following question:
How is the ‘ideal’ childhood in contemporary US culture different from childhood in other times and/or places? What are the positive and negative elements of childhood in different societies? Use examples and be specific.
Best answers will take the following format:
One paragraph introducing the idea of childhood, and how this cultural idea changes over time.
One paragraph discussing the positive elements of the changing definitions of childhood.
One paragraph discussing the negative elements of the changing definitions of childhood.
One paragraph summarizing your major points.
