In your portfolio project, you will do the following:
Apply leadership knowledge to your personal practice to improve patient outcomes.
Advocate for high-quality and safe patient care.
Analyze organizational structures and cultures to improve leadership and management effectiveness.
Analyze common issues in nursing management.
Propose solutions to barriers in implementing an intervention.
Evaluate management strategies.
Recommend management and communication strategies to effectively manage staff and improve patient care.
Formulate a method for evaluating the success of implementation.
You will develop a Quality Improvement plan for an issue that has been identified in your workplace. You will have identified the issue by interviewing a nurse leader at your work. In Module 1, you will need to have conducted the interview and need to create the summary of the interview.

Identify a nurse leader (not in your department) to interview in Module 1.
Interview the nurse leader (see action item 5 for details).
In a Microsoft Word document, prepare a summary follows:
Explain who the person is, his/her role, etc. Write a 3-4 paragraph biography about the person you identified as an effective leader. Describe the characteristics displayed by this person, how his/her leadership improves patient outcomes, and the leadership characteristics and theory (theories) that are exemplified in this person’s leadership.

Identify and briefly describe 3 – 4 priority quality improvement issues that were mentioned by the nurse leader in the interview.
Select one priority quality improvement issue gleaned from the nurse leader, which you will address in your quality improvement project.
Address the AIM of the project that is specific, measurable, and addresses why, when, and how the project would improve patient outcomes.
Review the assignment rubric to confirm that you have completed all elements of the assignment.
