While Operations and Supply Chain Management has been around for many years, provide at least two factors which account for the resurgence of interest in OSCM today.
Christy response
Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) is the design, operation, and improvement of the systems that create and deliver the firm’s primary products and services (Jacobs & Chase, 2020). Two factors that have accounted for the resurgence of interest in OSCM today are electronic commerce and sustainability.
Electronic commerce is the use of the internet as an essential element of business activity (Jacobs & Chase, 2020). 2020 and the world-wide pandemic showed us the importance of electronic commerce and how businesses needed to either adopt it or struggle to survive. Customers afraid of shopping in person, turned to online sales and if a business didn’t have a strong online presence, customers searched elsewhere. Ordering online and picking up curbside was almost non-existent pre-2020, yet now almost every business offers it. Businesses have basically been forced to adopt more electronic commerce, which in turn has caused a resurgence in interest in OSCM.
Sustainability is the ability to meet current resource needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs (Jacobs & Chase, 2020). There is a growing movement in our society to be lean and green in all aspects of our lives. Consumers want sustainable products/packaging and want to do business with companies that take great care in the environment. This is causing businesses to tailor their business model to suit this consumer tend, thus causing an increased interest in OSCM.

Class,
Given the facts that are supported by data, success in OSCM requires using a strategy that is consistent with the operations-related priorities of a firm Jacobs, F. R., & Chase, R. B. (2020). With new companies starting up daily and technology has been evolved faster than we can keep up with it. Implementing change is a great way to keep up with current trends and stay on top of the game. With OSCM we have to take into account the financial plan on what is the best and most profitable way for them to supply others with there goods while keeping a reasonable price and still being able to beat competitors. The hardest part now with OSCM is trying to beat competitors with shipping as now days everyone has evolved with the speed of which they can deliver and now have same day to two day shipping. This problem can either be good and bad for the company as they should not worry to much about improving shipping but can be able to worry about other productive cost. But on the other hand could be a problem if they have a competitor who is giving them faster shipping. Overall the OSCM has had to deal with a variety of changed over the past years and should and need to continue to evolve daily.

Hello Class,
An online company that I believe displays both complexity and diversion is custom ink. According to the text, complexity refers to how many steps it takes to provide a service in addition to the number of actions in each step. Diversion is the different number of ways a customer or service provider can interact with the steps.(Jacobs,2020)
These concepts apply to e-commerce because they are in the service industry. Custom Ink eliminates in-person engraving, embroidery, and bulk orders. Custom Ink has a feature in which customers can design their products virtually, get instant pricing, and still have virtual salespeople who respond in real-time. The hassles of limited supply and variations are no issue because custom ink has a large array of items to select from. Custom Ink additionally has a quick turnover for shipping. The usage of personalization and easy access make custom ink a company that values customer experiences and production.
