Throughout this unit you were looking at two or three examples of how equilibrium applies to everyday life. You were asked:
Identify how Le Chatelier’s principle would impact these examples.
Create the relevant equilibrium expressions for the examples.
Should any of the examples be a buffer system, identify it as such.
You are now to research the relationship between dental cavities (also known as dental caries) and the use of fluoridated toothpaste and water (hint: it’s about equilibrium).
Using one of the examples that you have been working on throughout the unit and your understanding of the relationship between dental cavities and the use of fluoridated toothpaste and water, create an artifact of your choosing to demonstrate what you have learned about systems in equilibrium and their application to everyday life.
Your artifact can be:
a written report,
an infographic,
a video recording,
a slideshow, etc.
Submit your research report to your instructor for evaluation. You will be evaluated on your ability to:
Describe the equilibrium systems, showing your understanding of the components of each system (reactants and products), where they occur in nature or industry and how they interact.
Identify how Le Chatelier’s principle would impact these examples.
Create the relevant equilibrium expressions for the examples.
When you are ready, please submit your Unit 3 research report. Submit your assessment for feedback and grade by selecting the “Assignments” link and following the submission directions.
The teacher will assess your work using the following rubric. Before submitting your assessment, review the rubric to ensure that you are meeting the curriculum expectations to the best of your ability. Your artifact should clearly demonstrate your mastery of the following overall curriculum expectations.
In this project you should cover 2 examples of equilibrium:
An example of your choice of an equilibrium in everyday life
An equilibrium in reference to toothpaste and dental cavities.
You should perhaps at the beginning of your report/presentation as an introduction, include equilibrium expressions, information, etc. to showcase your understanding of the chemical equilibrium concept using another example of equilibrium in everyday life.
Remember that the main focus of this project should be on the equilibrium application with respect to dental cavity and the use of fluoridated toothpaste.

I hope these can be used as a good starting point for your research project:

One of the most recognized reversible reactions in everyday life is production of ammonia used as a soil fertilizer:

To meet this expectation you should in your project include (for both equilibrium examples):
Equilibrium equations
Equilibrium constant expressions
Use the following for guidance:

Use of fluoridated toothpaste
Choose:
Written report
Infographic
Video
Slideshow
Etc.
1. Describe an Equilibrium system (example of your choice)
a. An equilibrium example with equation
Where it occurs in nature/industry
Buffer or not
b. Impact of Le Chatelier’s Principle
Temperature
Concentration of reactants/products
Volume/pressure
Catalyst
2. Equilibrium System Caries (dental cavities, toothpaste example)
a. Equilibrium equations
Where it occurs in nature/industry
Buffer or not
b. Impact of Le Chatelier’s Principle
Temperature
Concentration of reactants/products
Volume/pressure
Catalyst
Good luck with the project.
