our final paper must be a minimum of 9-10 pages in length, and include a title page and reference page (NOTE: The title and reference pages are NOT included in the page minimum). Your paper must follow all APA formatting and style guidelines (margins, font, spacing, numbering pages, appropriate citations, etc.), and include the following sections:
Introduction – Due in Week 3:
Describe the issue.
Identify why you selected the topic/issue.
Why is this topic current?
Why is there debate on this issue?
Who debates this issue?
Literature Review – Due in Week 4:
Who is participating in the events/incidents/case(s)?
What data/research/laws/cases support your position?
How long has this issue been debated?
Historically, which people/political parties/institutions have led the “for” arguments?
Who has led the “against” arguments?
Identify the most current case law pertaining to the topic.
Research – “For” and “Against” Arguments – Due in Week 5:
What are the facts, data, and arguments in favor of this issue?
What are the facts, data, and arguments against this issue?
NOTE: This section will be graded on your ability to:
Provide factual, rational, and evidence-based premises;
Identify inaccurate/irrelevant premises in arguments; and
Build support for a logical conclusion – in other words, a “sound” conclusion if building a deductive argument, or, a strong cogent inductive argument.
Closing Argument/Summation – Due in Week 6:
What conclusion(s) have you drawn based on the evidence for and against the issue?
NOTE: End this section with a summation supporting your conclusion.
References – Due in Week 7:
Cite a minimum of three references from the course AND four external references – for a minimum of seven primary references – using standards set by the American Psychological Association (APA).
References should primarily be peer reviewed professional journals or other approved sources (e.g., government documents, agency manuals, etc.).
You must be confident that the information and ideas can be trusted.
Do NOT use web sites like: Google, Wikipedia, thefreedictionary.com, copernic.com, etc.
