Directions
After reviewing your supplemental and required readings/resources, answer the following questions and prompts.
Identify two ways that Viviana used skills to express understanding, empathy, and active listening. Identify two additional ways that Viviana could have demonstrated active listening. What exactly could she have said?
What is Hideko’s stage of readiness to change? What information do you have to support your evaluation regarding the stage of readiness to change? What questions could you use to gain information to confirm your evaluation?
Using the social cognitive theory, discuss the interaction between personal factors, environmental factors, and behavioral factors related to this client. How do you think these factors impact her readiness to change?
Analyze the MAPS (Measurable, Achievable, Positive, Specific) goal that the client and practitioner agreed on in this meeting. Discuss whether the goal is measurable, attainable, positive, and specific.
Think about the case related to the influences discussed in Chapter 1 that are particularly relevant to understanding Hideko: culture, race, ethnicity, life stages, family stress, and demands. Discuss how these are relevant to Hideko.
Think about the case from the perspectives discussed in Chapter 2: constructivism, resilience, ecological, family systems, dual perspective, strengths, and empowerment. Discuss how these perspectives might be used to help Viviana understand and work with Hideko.
You are now ready to evaluate Viviana’s progress with Hideko during a supervision session and advise her on ending the therapeutic relationship. Write at least three things you could advise Viviana to say to Hideko as part of ending the relationship.
