Immigration is a topic that brings out strong opinions on all sides of the issue. Many times, however, we discuss immigration in the abstract without really thinking of the people impacted by our perspectives. For this assignment, I would like you to interview an immigrant (someone not born in the U.S.) and ask them about their immigrant experience. You can ask questions like why did they come here, how did they come here, have they experience racism, how do they view the U.S. and many more. The objective is to learn about their story. You can interview a family member, friend, or co-work as long as they were not born in the U.S. but are living here now. You are to write a short essay summarizing their perspective/story.
Essay Requirements
Provide a 1.5 to 2-page (but no more) essay that provides an overview of an immigrant’s experience (do NOT provide question and answer format, it needs to be an essay).
For the first paragraph, you can provide basic demographic information to get a sense of who the person is, age, where they came from, relationship to you, etc (first name only-information will be kept confidential).
The body of the essay should consist of several themes that emerged from your interview, what stood out to you, what was insightful, what did you learn from the interview, etc.
