Why did comic strips such as Hogan’s Alley, Happy Hooligan and Katzenjamers Kids appeal to the lower class immigrants at the turn of the century? What did that say about their identity? Did this help or hurt them establish a national identity?
What helped establish Superman as a hero of the American public? Why, in particular, was he heroic to Jewish Americans? How does his popularity translate to nationalism?
