Imprinting of Bias in AI

Overview
With the first unit behind us, it’s time to start developing the group project. As a genre of writing, the report is dedicated to the, “organized presentation of factual information, often aimed at multiple audiences that may present the results of an investigation, a trip, or a research project” (Alred, Brusaw, and Oliu, 2015, p. 469).
This report will serve as the bulk of information to be used for the final unit of the course. To accomplish this, you’ll collaborate on a document in which your group presents the following:
An agreed upon wicked problem to solve( we choose: Imprinting of Bias in AI)
The background and significance of that problem
A review of solutions that have been attempted or applied, and
A proposed solution that your group argues is optimal (does not have to be original)
Preparation
First thing to do is agree on a wicked problem to tackle. From your leverage points outlines, select one that seems most compelling.
Then start researching. You’ll need references but they don’t have to be academic (but please be careful what sources you select!). Keep in mind that this report is more of a broad overview.
You should also start delegating responsibilities – who is doing what? See the list below.
Execution
Introduce your report in the abstract and introduction. Summarizing the various sections of the report and tell your audience what purpose the report serves and the problem being addressed.
Discuss the background of the problem. This will demand further research. Implement this research in a professional manner, MLA style.
Describe several solutions that have been deployed or are expected to be implemented in the future.
Argue for one of these solutions in a recommendations section. How does this solution address the problem? Make a case for this solution by discussing viability, cost, or whatever other factors make your case. This will serve as a conclusion so be sure to explain benefits, discuss why your approach is significant, and why the reader should be concerned. What do you want the next step to be? Here is where you can offer a more emotional appeal to the audience.
Additional Components
Write clearly and concisely, proofread and edit
Define jargon and terminology that might be unfamiliar (the appendix is useful for this purpose)
Provide graphics and illustrations that present complex information in a visual manner
Use formatting (such as headings and subheadings) to organize and structure the report. Use a table of contents which clearly lays out cohesive sections
Below you will find two documents that should be helpful as your group works on this assignment. The first is an example from another section of English 310
download
. Use it as a guide to help envision what your final submission will look like. The second document is a Word template
download
that will be helpful for standardizing your submissions. Follow this template as it conforms to the genre. I do not suggest copying and pasting into the template – Word is not your friend and will turn on you with a quickness. Explanations about each component are provided throughout. Some sections like the appendices will not be necessary depending on your report. Use your best judgement.
See the rubric for detailed criteria and expectations.
