In light of Edward Said’s critique and the problems discussed in the lecture video, what do you think of Huntington’s thesis? Are we really in the midst of a “clash of civilizations,” or is something else going on?
In your response, it is particularly useful to think about the relationship to Wallerstein’s ideas about the World System (core-center-periphery nations) and Anderson’s ideas about “imagined communities” (imagining ourselves and others through a framework of nations with national identities). Who are the people who make claims about what civilizations are and what they do? And how do they promote these ideas?
[Writing should be anywhere between 250-300 words; need to at least briefly introduce and summarize
the concepts you are addressing, but they also must go beyond summary and engage the concepts in a serious manner]
