For this journal, you will need to download and read “The Story of an Hour” and “Poems about Women by Women.”
In a journal entry of 250+ words answer the questions below.
1. in “Story of an Hour,” Louise Mallard finds out her husband has died and experiences a transformation. At the end of the story, something very unexpected happens. Remembering back to the timelines you read at the beginning of the course, and knowing how restrictive the time was that Louise lived in, (she had no financial autonomy as a married woman during that time), is it really “joy” that kills her? Explain what you think really happened to her and why.
2. After reading the collection of poems, which one stood out to you the most? Name it and discuss what it said about being a woman and why it stood out for you. Be careful not to just summarize the poem – explain what it said to you and made you think about, and why you wanted to write about this particular one. (Dig in and explore!)
Remember to format all titles and quotes according to MLA rules and not to use ANY outside sources for this work. This journal is about your response to the story and poems. You can refer to course materials, but your journal should be your own response.
