On page 179 of Ch. 9, Smith has a subsection labeled “God-like Princes”. Reread this section carefully, and focus especially on the last part, the final four paragraphs of the subsection on page 183. In the fall of 2020 in the US we are facing a scenario somewhat like what Locke is describing where there is a confrontation between the legislative power and the executive power. Who decides such conflicts according to Locke? (hint: there is more than one answer to this). And how do they decide?
NB I wrote the original version of this question originally in the middle of August 2020. Interestingly my HJS students that semester answered it durring the week of the Presidential Election (Nov 3, 2020 = the election date).
