In the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, in a small village to the north there is a ceremony that happens once a year called the lottery. The lottery has to be abolished because the main event is a raffle that is outdated/obsolete. It should be abolished because of how outdated and unfair it is, to the point where you can see the older villagers and younger villagers in conflict with each other.
