examples of artists approaching similar themes in different ways. In your
reading, “The Renaissance” by Marie Porterfield Barry, you learned
about three sculptures of the Biblical hero, David, created by three different
artists over a nearly 200-year period. You will notice there are both
similarities and differences in style, formal elements and principles, media,
and content. In this writing assignment, compare and contrast these Davids,
using your terms from the first three modules. What David is your favorite, and
why? Use your formal terminology to back up your thoughts and feelings about

Part 2 (300 words): In this module, we studied many
art movements that were reactions to the styles that came before. Some of these
movements took the ideas from previous styles and pushed them further, and
sometimes their new style was completely opposite, as a reaction against the
previous movement. In this writing assignment, choose two movements where one
influenced the other. Choose one artwork from each of those two movements and
compare and contrast the two images in terms of stylistic qualities, elements,
and principles of design, media, and content. Use your terms from the first
three modules, as well as what you’ve learned through these chronological
modules, to make your points.

Grading
This paper will be graded on content, not length. That being
said, each part in this writing assignment will be 300 words totaling to 600
words (this is about two pages in Times New Roman, 12 pt, double spaced), and
this minimum word count must be met to earn full points.
