Each summary/critique is expected to be around 2 pages (double spaced). On the first page, I would like to see a general summary of the reading for the week. As this summary is expected to be roughly one page, it will not be possible to address and cover every topic of the chapter(s) for the week; rather, the goal is to concisely summarize the larger picture and ideas from the material in a cohesive narrative. The remainder of the document should revolve more around your thoughts regarding the reading and connections to other readings and course material. In what ways do these readings connect to previous readings? Was there anything that just stuck out or caught your attention from the readings? If so, why? Are there any specific connections to current sporting events or controversies? The goal in the second portion (the critique portion) is to flex your sociological and critical thinking muscles. As you read, what stands out? Why? Full credit will be given for sufficient, well written and well-organized summaries and for critiques that show a willingness to grapple with and make critical connections between the readings and previous readings or current events.
