A kiosk is a small structure with one or more open sides that is used to vend merchandise or services. The kiosk design must be flexible enough that the final product can be used in a variety of locations and venues (e.g., shopping mall, trade shows, etc.). The kiosk design must allow for information content but you can determine the layout and format of that information (i.e., posters, computer monitors, interactive displays, etc.). The kiosk is essentially the product or housing that supports the information.
The kiosk must:
Entice the public to examine the information
Represent the client and organizational mission
Fit within 50 square feet of floor space
Not exceed 7 feet 6 inches in height
Be self-supporting (i.e., must stand on its own)
Week 6 – Research and Programming Create a document that includes the following:
1. A written design concept. You can use the exercise in the Week 5 lecture to guide your process.
2. A client profile in which you include/identify
The organization (of your choice)
Its mission
Why the social cause is relevant
What it means to you personally
3. A problem statement
4. Goals and objectives
5. Spatial Requirements. List at least five spatial requirements. Spatial requirements for this project will vary based on your client selection and the goals and objectives. They won’t necessarily be “floor” spaces but could include counter tops and vertical spaces for interactive displays and signage.
6. Case Studies (3). Conduct three case studies. For each kiosk, identify the kiosk, include an image and 2-3 sentences of why it is relevant to your project.
7. Thumbnail Sketches (10). Create at least ten (10) thumbnail sketches in which you diagrammatically explore how the kiosk spatial requirements can be arranged in plan and elevation view. These are not technical floor plan or elevation drawings, but spatial diagrams exploring relationships, design principles, and place elements.
