The informative essay focuses on your ability to look at a text and accurately relay the relevant information. You will critically look at an article you have found on any topic of your choice. Your job is to summarize and inform in 4-6 pages what your article discusses. You will be evaluated on your ability to adequately discuss and dissect the important information while understanding why it’s important. You will also be evaluated on your critical reading skills, using strategies that we have been practicing all semester.
The essay, as it is part of a process, consists of three sections. Each of these sections will be factored into your grading of the essay. A full rubric of the grading is attached.
Section 1 – Research: You will be responsible for finding a reputable source on any topic you wish, either through MCC’s Library database or another resource. The source you choose must be at least 10 pages long. If you print a PDF of an online article, it must be 10 pages of text, not two pages of text and eight pages of comments.
