Inquiry-Based Learning

Prepare a written response that includes the following:

• Write a brief description that explains how the inquiry
continuum is, or is not, in action in your classroom. Include
triumphs and challenges that you have experienced while
working toward developing scientific inquiry with students.

• If you are not yet utilizing all four levels of inquiry, offer some
insight as to why. Describe how you plan to apply new ideas to
advance your use of inquiry with students. Describe new ideas
you would like to implement in order to advance your use of
inquiry with students. Set SMART goals to stretch yourself in
the coming months to further expand the range of complexity
of inquiry experiences you provide in your classroom.

• Include ideas as to how you can collaborate with your school
colleagues to expand the levels of inquiry in your classroom.
Also, provide details as to how the NEXT Generation Science
Standards for Science Teachers Preparation help you in this
endeavor

• Create a case for the value of inquiry-based learning. Include
references to your own inquiry experience with the “Concepts
Applied: Falling Bodies” experiments.

• Finally, focus on the science instruction you are currently
implementing in your classroom. This assignment will give you
an opportunity to assess where you are now and where you’d
like to be with respect to enabling students to learn through
inquiry. With the NSTA Standards in mind, reflect on the ways you are currently applying the four levels of inquiry into your
instructional practice.
