Based on the column of Focus on Skills, 14.1 titled “A Friend Converts to Islam” on page 415 (Read this section before you start to write your feedback!):
Your high school friend, Matt has converted to Islam and your mutual friend, Alex doesn’t seem to take it well. Alex asks Matt why he has turned against the United States. Read the case study on page 415 carefully, analyze the context, and try to answer the following questions:
Q1. Imagine that Alex is confronting Matt on your high school reunion’s Facebook page, and several others have followed Alex by posting hate speeches against Matt. You feel strongly to say something to defuse the situation and prevent this conflict from escalating. What would you say? Use quotation marks for your exact Facebook statement. Your statement should be at least 250 words in length.
Q2. Identify at least 3 key issues in intercultural communication (in bold and cite the page numbers) behind this conflict. For example: “This conflict can be best explained by ________________(key concept in bold, page number)____________….
Q3. Based on the key issues you identified above, use at least 3 key concepts (in bold and cite the page numbers) to explain your strategic message (a persuasive message that was crafted with clear goals) to defuse the situation.
Include at least two outside references (other than our textbook) and cite them in APA style. THE TEXT IS ATTACHED AND SO IS THE FOCUS ON SKILLS 14.1 SECTION.
