INTERCULTURAL CONVERSATION ASSIGNMENT

In your report cover the following:
Introduction:
Introduce the reader to the person you talked to for this assignment.
Describe the culture they are from.
Comment on the impressions you had of this culture before the conversation. Did you know a lot or a little about this culture?
Do you think your initial impressions of this culture were accurate?
What were you interested in discovering during the conversation.
Discoveries:
Describe, with as much detail as you can, what was discussed during the hour-long conversation.
What questions did you ask? Share with your reader details about how your conversation partner responded to your questions and the information that you learned as the conversation progressed.
Share with the reader the questions that the conversation partner had for you. How did you respond to their questions?

What did you find to be the three most interesting things you learned about this culture from this conversation?

Documentation of research: Be sure to consistently and accurately cite your sources throughout the text of the report. The reader should be clear about where each fact came from. Answers:
There are so many celebrated holidays in my country, but if I had to chose I would Christmas and Independence Day are among the most celebrated in my country.
2. We handle racism just about how everyone else handles it. I don’t think racism ever really looks any different anywhere in the world. I guess in my country it’s different because we are of the same skin.
3. I have the privilege of living in both societies my country and this country, so that gives me a specific viewpoint on the matter. I would say education is way much more appreciated than here, but the standard of education is much better here than it is there. But of course that’s not to say that there’s not good education there. It just means those who can afford it will achieve it.
4. Not necessarily a unique way, but respect is a must when greeting an elder. My culture does not care if you know the person or not but when you greet an elderly, the same respect that you show to your own parents is expected to be given to them as well.
5. The one advice I would give to anyone visiting my country would be to make sure they take it all in. Also to make sure they enjoy the drums, because Burundian drums are awesome.
6. My country is a very agricultural country, and I think every country depends on imported goods at some level. So I wouldn’t say that my country solely depends on it.
7. I know that your country is very rich in resources.
8. I would like to believe that we are known for our unique culture, but unfortunately I would say that my country is know for the everyday American stereotype of African countries being poor.
9. Not that I am aware of, no.
10. I don’t know much of the president is doing in my country because I don’t live there.
11. I’m not sure, I am not the best person to answer that question. If I had to say, I would say no, my country doesn’t suffer from any natural disasters. But there is the occasional rain that cause floods once in a while.
12. Kirundi is the main language in Burundi. Other languages spoken are Swahili and Kinyrwanda.
13. I watch and listen to foreign music and movies all the time.
14. I’m my country, marriage is a huge celebration. We party hard when it comes weddings
15. No, it’s legally wrong to marry more than one woman , but from a religious standpoint they do.
16. The number one thing that bothers me so much about my country discrimination towards each other.
17. I don’t like politics in general, because of how much it is full of lies. When it comes to my country politics we can always improve definitely and do more.
