So can you please come up with 10 question to ask a law enforcement official for an interview.
As part of this course, it is required that you conduct an interview or a ride-along with a law enforcement official. Use the interview as an opportunity to address your research paper topic.
This individual can be a patrol officer, detective, commander, chief or any other type of law enforcement official. This individual may be on active duty or retired. Please draft a list of questions that you have an interest in before you approach your interviewee. The list of questions must be reflective of topics discussed in class and/or in the book. I will expect a written transcript of the interview to be turned in. The written transcript must include your initial questions as well as the responses. The length of the interview is up to you but should be at least 15-30 minutes. A second option would be to do a police ride-along with a member of law enforcement. The ride-along can be arranged with any local police or sheriff’s department.
Generally speaking, a ride-along will vary from 4 hours to a full shift. You should plan to do the same type of interview, but I would also like you to observe and comment on the interactions between the officer/deputy and citizens. Schedule early as there is usually a waiting period.
