Lab Overview
This laboratory is an introduction to the use of topographic maps. It concentrates on the construct of maps, magnetic declination, map scales, and the use and creation of contours. A full-size digital USGS topographic map is provided to complete the assignment. Labeled as:

*Please note that this map is an official USGS ‘US Topo’ map. It is in a special format called a GeoPDF.
In order to fully use a GeoPDF file, you need a plug-in called the GeoPDF Toolbar (free from TerraGo). You do NOT need GeoPDF Toolbar for the lab, but you can try it on your own computer if you want to.
This map will NOT PRINT to a regular printer. It is at least 24″x36″. You may be able to print parts of the map, but a large format printe is needed to produce a readable paper map.
NOTE: Depending on your system and display, some colors are harder to see (especially green).
*DO NOT use the miniature topographic maps in the lab text to do this assignment.

I have attached ” The rules of contouring are in Chapter 6 of the lab text (p. 61) as a PDF to this file to help assist you.
Guidelines
This lab must be downloaded and printed to complete. The digital topographic map needed to complete this assignment is provided above.
Fill in all of the pages of the lab on paper and then scan all pages as a single PDF file. Save the completed file and upload to this order. Or youupload the answers electronically or by way of upload images.
