Compare that to the descriptions in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Young Goodman Brown and Ralph Ellison’s Battle Royal. What meaning do we get from Hawthorne’s Faith’s pink ribbon, the forest, and Ellison’s battle, nude girl, coins, etc.
