In this discussion, you will choose your “topic” and submit your original reply to that topic. At least one of your replies to a classmate must address the “other” topic (the one to which you did not submit your original post).
Consider developmental theories in your response (developmental theory applies to both topics).
1. Is marketing a product as a “girl” or a “boy” toy a rational response to children’s already strong gendered toy preferences? Does this type of marketing reinforce gender stereotypes? Which evidence (for against marketing to a specific gender) do you find most convincing? Least? Why? Address the potential for effectively marketing “neutrally”.
2. How do social interactions (those with parents, peers, and even social media interactions) help individuals form self-views and gender identity? How do those interactions differ in face to face and online interactions? How are they similar and different for binary and nonbinary individuals? How do these interactions influence gender stereotypes?
