Argumentative Essay
1. Purpose of paper:
Choose an essay prompt and write an argumentative paper with a clear position that you defend.
2. Qualifying factors:
You should specify variables of scope such as time frame, geographic region or demographic groups as well as any factor that qualifies your position.
3. Length: 1000 words
5 paragraph paper. Introduction. 3 body paragraphs. Conclusion.
+/- 10% (excluding Title page and references)

2.3 Body Paragraphs X 3
Each Paragraph should contain the following elements:
• Transitions between and within paragraphs
• Topic Sentence and controlling idea
• Evidence to support points
• Reasoning and analysis of the evidence.
• Concluding sentence / reaffirmation of main thesis
2.4 End
The end should contain the following
• Summary of main points
• Restatement of Thesis (your position)
• Reference to Wider Context
3. Style and Flow. 2 points
Use clear, concise language, active voice where possible and short sentences.
Correct spelling and word choice (use Grammarly or something similar and check yourself afterwards).
Correct use of transitions.
Logical flow in the paper from beginning to end.
Formal tone.
4. Formatting and sources. 2 points
Use at least three academic sources (one AT LEAST per body paragraph)
Reference list on a separate page (in alphabetical order, APA format)
AT LEAST two in-text citations in every one of the three body paragraphs (APA format)
Make sure these sources are properly incorporated into the paper and not overly reliant on lengthy quotations (this counts for summaries, paraphrasing, isolated stats)
Times New Roman 12-point font.
Double Spacing
5. Extra Points. 2 points
Extra points will be given for strength of reasoning, original ideas, strong use of language, extra sources, excellent presentation of paper.
