While there are benefits to juvenile incarceration, research has shown that compared to alternative sentencing, the impact on effectively correcting behavior in juveniles and reducing recidivism is small. Alternative sentencing has proven to be more effective as a correctional method and in reducing recidivism, by not only benefitting juvenile offenders themselves, but also the prison and court system.
