Critical Thinking Paper #1 – Juvenile Victimization
For this assignment you will be required to write a 5-page paper (not including
title/abstract/reference pages), answering the critical thinking question below. Please
feel free to use the Internet and/or other resources to answer the question in detail.
1. Answerthequestion:
The question may be in several parts and at times may be debatable. Please read the
question(s) carefully and answer each part in detail.
Critical Thinking Question: Part One: What internal factors make the experience of
being victimized increase the likelihood of a juvenile becoming an offender and a
victimizer? Part Two: What external factors in society have contributed to the increase
of youths to commit a disproportionate number of serious and violent delinquent acts?
Part Three: Finally, please apply and discuss how differential association theory can be
linked to each of these factors and the increase in delinquency?

Do research on the topic to inform yourself of both sides of the issue so that you can
answer and/or argue your point as clearly and strongly as possible. You may use the
internet, professional journals, or other sources to inform yourself about the topic. Next
identify and apply one of the sociological theories on inequality found in the text or in the
course packet.
3. Write your Paper:
Provide the best research and/or strongest argument that you can for the discussion
question. Make sure that you follow the proper format clearly stating the issue, your
claim, and your premises. Be sure to provide support for your premises. Do your best to
avoid vagueness and ambiguity.
Your paper, if it is written clearly, would be easily outlined. It may be helpful to outline
your own argument either before or after you write it to make sure that it is clear and
well structured.

your assignment. Your paper will be graded according to the grading rubric.
Grading Rubric Section 1: The paper is at least 5 pages in length, typed and double-
spaced. The paper follows APA guidelines including a title, abstract, headings and a
reference page with at least 5 references as well as provides in-text citations (10
points).
Please note that if one or more of these requirements are missing you will be deducted
the full -10 points.
Grading Rubric Section 2: The paper must answer the questions in full detail and
follow the required assignment directions and format: (90 points total).
Part One: Juvenile Victimization
• The paper identifies and explains in detail the internal factors that make the
experience of being victimized increase the likelihood of a juvenile being an
offender and a victimizer (30 points total).
Part Two: Contributing External Factors
• The paper identifies and explains in detail the external factors in society that
contribute to the increase of youths committing a disproportionate number of
serious and violent delinquent acts (30 points total).
Part Three: Differential Association Theory
• The paper applies and discusses in detail how differential association theory can
be linked to each of the factors both internal and external and the increase in
delinquency (20 points total).
Conclusion Section
• The paper provides a conclusion section that discusses the papers and the ideas
that have been discussed (used) throughout the paper. (10 points total).
