Instructions
This week’s project is a case study known as Ayaka’s Story. Ayaka’s Story was written and published by Tan Huynh, teacher, researcher, author, and blogger. Tan has degrees in sociology and Spanish as well as a M.A.Ed specializing in language acquisition. He published this case study as part of WIDA’s Essential Actions for Teacher Collaboration in 2017. I hope you will find the case and article relevant to what you do in the ESL classroom.
The case study places you, the reader, as an observant of what mainstream teachers and ESL teachers might accomplish through collaboration with a focus on making input comprehensible for English Learners. You will read specifically about Ayaka, a middle school English Learner with limited English proficiency, and remarkable intelligence in content and artistic expression.
After you read the case study, you will read a brief article entitled, Comprehensible Input – 4 Strategies for the ESL Classroom.
Equipped with knowledge gained from the case study and the article, you will respond to a series of questions for this week’s project.
