Lead Your Boss by John Baldoni

The format of your book report should exhibit
professional writing. Submit this assignment in Canvas as a Microsoft Word
document only. Grammar and spelling are important and will be graded. If you
cut and paste direct quotes from a source it must be cited. At a minimum you
should turn in 3 double spaced pages with no more than one-inch margins using
no larger than 12 fonts. A longer paper is fine as well. Your file naming
convention MUST be last name, first name, section #. Mine would be Davis John
013. If you want the ECU writing lab to review your book report, make sure you
contact them early to understand their timing parameters. They will most likely
want a copy of these instructions.
There should be three distinct,
titled, and separated section headings in your written report. Note the example
which clearly shows 3 sections, separated, and titled. Your report must use this
3-section format.
Summary
– Section 1 – No more than 1/3 of the report is the summary of the book
that was read. Please note that if your report is 6 total pages, about 2 pages should
be the summary. Papers with more than 1/3 summary will not do as well as those
that follow the guideline. If too much of your report is the summary, you will lose
points.

Leadership – Section 2 – This is the focus of the assignment. 1/3 or more of the paper must
be this section. This section will identify leadership skills and traits the
book illustrated as effective leadership. These could be any identified in the book
and does not have to match those we studied in the module on leadership. How
did the book teach what leaders to lead effectively? For maximum points, you
should describe 4 different leadership traits/skills and provide an example of
each from the book if you want the best grade. As the foundation of this
exercise, the more detailed the description of the trait or skill and the example,
the better your grade. See the rubric for more grading information.
Every paper should strive to
have at least 3 leadership traits and examples. Each example will be a separate
paragraph in section 2. If you have 4 examples you would have at least 4 paragraphs
in section 2. You should be looking for leadership examples as you read. Leadership
examples poorly thought out or poorly supported with examples from the book in
the paper just to hit a certain number of examples can work against you. Think
about this as you read. We are not looking for your opinion but what the book taught
and provided examples on for better leadership.
Conclusion – Section 3 – The final section will be a conclusion and critique of the book.
Every conclusion section should be 3 paragraphs, At a minimum it must address
the following 3 things, and each must be a separate paragraph in the section:
1. Discuss one point that you disagree with and why you disagreed
with it? Please do not say I could not find anything I disagreed with.
2. What was the single most important point you learned from reading
the book and why? This means you must choose one and explain why you choose it.
3. Would you recommend the book to someone else? Why or why not? This
is not a yes or no answer. Each of the 3 points above must be a separate
paragraph in section 3.
