Please write a response paper that covers the following.
Identify 3 major differences in watching “live” performances compared to film/television.
Identify 2-3 moments of picturization that occurred for you during the performances. It is 2-3 moments total NOT per performance. You may not have had a moment of picturization for all of the performances and that is OK. Please use examples from the performances to explain you “moments”
Choose which performance was your favorite and explain why.
Picturization is a theatrical term that is used to define, “the images that we create in our minds”. This term can also be found on you terms and definition sheet. While reading the descriptions in the plays we will “fill in the blanks”. We will create pictures in our minds often based on people we know or places that we have been. This can make it a very personal experience. Each moment of picturization brings us closer to the story and can help us connect with the characters more.
While watching a play this also can happen. We may see a character or a location that reminds us of someone or someplace that we know well. Many plays ask us as an audience to “fill in the blank”. Many productions will choose to use minimal sets or props. This allows the audience to create their own images which can be a more powerful experience. If a set is built and put up we are forced to see only that but if there is no set there may be hundreds of versions that the audience members will see.
When an actor takes the stage they often have costumes, lights, sound, props and sets to elevate their performance. But if you take those all away, they still have several “tools” to use to create an equally impactful experience.
Voice
Hand Gestures
Body Language
Facial Expressions
Eye Contact
I have attached 4 performances that are presented in a minimal way. There is one 2 person dialogue and 4 monologues (which are one person performances). Pay attention to the moments of picturization that occur for you in each of the performances. After you watch all of the performances go to the assignment page which is next. Read the instructions and then submit your assignment.
Here the clips the profressor provided for this assignment:
