Research and Presentation of Project:
There are two parts to this assignment. Choose a topic that you are interested in doing research on. Begin by searching for sources – start with 15 scholarly books and/or articles that will eventually be narrowed down to 6 to 8 relevant sources.
Next step is to write a research paper on your topic. The paper should be 5-6 pages in length, single-spaced. The format should include the following:
1. Introduction to topic. This opening paragraph with include a statement about the aim or goal for the paper. Your work is explanatory in nature so a cause and effect hypothesis is not needed but you do require a thesis statement. For example, your topic is about divorce among Canadian families and the factors behind the rates. A good thesis statement is – this paper will explain the structural and personal factors associated with why married couples decide to divorce.
2. Literature review section – provide a brief summary of your sources, explain their contents and why they are relevant to your thesis statement. Group similar sources together in your review. (half a page)
3. Explanatory analysis of your research. Divide this section into 3 parts to correspond to 3 research findings. Each part should contain a number of paragraphs as your narrative evolves. (2-3 pages)
4. Conclusion – in half a page sum up the key points from your research that were highlighted in your paper. Do not offer anything new but you can suggest avenues for further research and offer specific solutions for change/improvement.
The paper must contain proper APA in-text citations and in addition to your text a reference list provided at the end.
