You are to write a paper – complete with an introduction (in which you state a claim), body (literature review organized to show above claim), and conclusion (what can we learn from your review).
The title of your paper is: Management and leadership in the new remote work landscape: what should change and what should remain the same.
I am not interested only in what others are saying about this question, but mostly in what YOU think, based on what you have read in the book and in your other sources. This is a new phenomenon, and we can assess and extrapolate on what should change, based on various theories, assumptions and data (which your paper should make explicit). You may cover any of the topics raised in the book, but you must expand on the book, to provide graduate-level (in-depth) support to your claims. Write paragraphs (one idea per paragraph), use your own words, offer some unique ideas or unique points of view, and be diligent to use data whenever possible, and to cite all of your sources. In your paper, aim to cover various topics, divided into sub-sections – but make sure that there is a unified claim behind it[1]. Your paper should have value to the reader – and that value should be clear from the first paragraph. It should be 10-15 pages long (12 font, single space) and have a minimum of 8 academic sources (plus other non-academic but credible ones). You may need to use our library in order to access some of your sources.
This paper will allow you to add up to 35 points to your grade[2]. You may email me for help, ask to meet if needed, etc. I will not, however, read and comment on drafts.
Your paper is due on June 15, submit on Blackboard. No additional work or time will be offered.
[1] For instance, some ideas: you may discuss how the new landscape affects the three different subsystems in an organization differently: boundary spanning jobs; managerial jobs; and technical jobs – and have a subsection for each. You can then at the end create a table that compares the various elements that affect each subsystem. Another idea would be to do the same, but compare mechanistic vs. organic organization – or differentiated vs. cost-leaders and so on. Or, you could discuss the various functional areas and how each may be affected (marketing, finance, HR, etc). Reach out to me if you’d like to brain-storm or expand an idea.
