The indications for mechanical ventilation are fairly well documented in the literature. However, the withdrawal process is less understood and more subjective. When should the discontinuation of mechanical ventilation be considered? What process should be followed? Should weaning parameters be used with every patient such as the RSBI? If so, which ones? Research these questions and provide one peer-reviewed article referencing what you would consider to be the “gold” standard in the weaning process. Provide a brief description of this methodology incorporating data from your reference study that substantiates your belief that this technique is optimal.
A hot topic will be posted periodically throughout the semester, and each student
should have the initial post completed by Wednesday. Each student is expected
to review and comment on a minimum of two hot topic assignments by Sunday.
The student must have reviewed the posted article and the summary. Feedback
should be well thought out and constructive in nature with a minimum of 100
