Write a two page paper on Michelle Alexander’s main ideas expressed in her speech. What did she focus on? What are you questioning after listening to her speech? What additional information do you still need as you think through her conclusions? How are her arguments similar and/or different from the arguments expressed by Emily Bazelon in Charged?
In order to obtain full credit, you must answer the questions posed using at least two (2) sources to support your opinion. These sources may be the textbook, research obtained from a respectable website, or research obtained from an academic source (e.g., a scholarly journal or book). You should not use websites such as Wikipedia or use online news sources such as TMZ.
The sources must be identified within the paper so that I can clearly see where the information was obtained. This is very important, not only to avoid plagiarism charges (which are extremely serious!), but also so that I can see that you have an educated opinion as you are using research to support your arguments. Since you are required to use outside sources to support your arguments, you must cite these outside sources in your paper. The citations must follow the APA guidelines. The paper should include in-text citations and a brief reference list.
Furthermore, to receive full credit, you must thoroughly answer the questions posed. A thorough paper will answer all parts of the questions for that specific assignment, but more importantly, a thorough answer will clearly demonstrate to the instructor that the student understands the material. It is expected that a thorough answer will be approximately 2 pages in length. This is similar to a two page, double-spaced document in MS Word using a 12-point font with 1 inch margins on all sides.
