Materials covered in class

You must write an approximately eight-page typed and double-spaced paper (with a 12-point font) (not including sources). This paper will require an analysis of the assigned readings, lectures, and other class materials, but does not require additional sources. You will be graded on the basis of your references to the assigned materials (not your opinion). Please don’t forget to include citations in your paper. Use parenthetical citations in the paper that include the person’s last name, year of publication, and page number-i.e., (Wright, 2020, 20). Then, include a Bibliography page at the end of the paper that lists your sources. The sources can be formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style, M.L.A., or the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.) format. See the sources in the textbooks for examples.
The first class material paper requires an analysis of the problems vs. solutions theme.
Concerning the problems African Americans have encountered historically, answer the following question: Are African Americans still disadvantaged by the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow? This question requires an analysis of the information mentioned in chapters 1 and 2 of the American Politics and the African American Quest for Universal Freedom book. Focus on the conditions that led to a denial of universal freedom.
The first question under the solutions theme is: What interracial coalitions did African Americans develop and which were most successful? Refer to chapter 6 of the American Politics book (not including black power information) and the Bridge to Freedom documentary to answer this question.
The second question under the solutions theme is: Should African Americans have remained loyal to the Republican Party? Refer to chapter 1 of The Loneliness of the Black Republican book.
The final question under the solutions theme is: What was Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer’s greatest contribution based on the assigned readings and film? Refer to chapters 1 and 6 of Until I Am Free and the Mississippi: Is This America documentary?
