Subway Assignment: “Me and My Subway”
After reading Ian Frazer’s Take the F,” write a three-page essay on one of the following topics:
Your subway story. Again, be creative. Some approaches you might consider:
Why you love/hate the subway.
To what extent you depend on the subway.
What are the things that most bug you about the subway and NYC subway riders?
Subway etiquette. Are there any unwritten rules you see operating regularly in the subway? What do you observe happening when these rules are violated?
“Tricks” you have learned over the years in coping with various subway challenges.
Your most memorable (terrifying/pleasing) subway moment.
The most interesting person you met on the subway
The first time you rode the subway alone.
The first time you rode the subway alone.
You may draw from both story lines if you wish, so long as your final draft is thematic, comprehensive, well organized, and interestingly written.
Finally, try to find a creative title for your essay – something that somehow relates to the thematic structure of your essay.
