Here are a few guidelines and pointers when drafting your literature review:
Introduction – In this section, you should provide a general introduction to your paper. You could focus on answering the following questions:
What are you going to tell the reader?
Why are you going to tell the reader this information?
Problem Statement – In this section, you should introduce your problem statement. This would include answering the following questions:
Why are you studying this issue?
Why is this issue an important issue in education?
The goal of the problem statement is to argue that the problem being studied is an important one as well as to persuade the reader that he or she should keep reading your paper because you will be presenting information that will help him or her better understand the said problem.
Literature Review – This section should account for the work that other researchers have done to solve the problem that you outlined in the problem statement. You should include information from at least 4 different research articles. In this section, I would encourage you to focus on the following questions (also refer to Reading and Understanding Academic Literature chart completed as a miscellaneous assignment):
What research has been conducted to help solve this problem?
How has that research been conducted?
How does that research help us better understand this problem?
What gaps exist in this research (e.g., what questions are left unanswered)?
How does my study/research help close those gaps?
Conclusion In this section, you should provide a general conclusion to your paper. You could focus on answering the following questions:
What have you told the reader? (A summary of the points in the paper).
Why have you told the reader about this information? (What is the worth knowing?)
Include a list of references in APA style.
Your literature review excluding the references and title page should be about four to five pages but we will not take off if it is longer.
