The book “Four Hats in The Ring” is needed for this assignment. There is two parts to this assignment.

What is Lewis Gould’s thesis is Four Hats in the Ring?
What evidence does he present to substantiate that the Election of 1912 gave rise to what he called “the birth of Modern American Politics.”
Of the four candidates running for President, who seems to best reflect the reform-based ideas of the day otherwise known as progressivism. Explain your answer.

When Gould writes about the election of 1912, he seems to speak about countervailing forces. On the one hand, he talks about the birth of Modern American Politics. On the other hand, in the epilogue he almost wistfully writes: “Four distinguished citizens actually sought the presidency in a campaign of serious ideas and elevated discourse.” Writing in 2008, he concluded “that such an outcome now seems inconceivable in contemporary America…”
What is the legacy of the election of 1912 and the what impact (if any) does it exert on the state of politics in the aftermath of the 2020 election?
