I think this is a very interesting question that can go lead into a very deep rabbit hole of responses. In my opinion, I feel that the 50 state governments should not be abolished. The reason why I believe that it shouldn’t be abolished is because I would take in to count 3 major factors; economy, population, and geography. The United States of America was founded on immigration. There was the Spaniards that sailed to America, the British that seceded from their own country to create the United States, a lot of Chinese immigrants that came during the gold rush, and many other immigrants from all over the world. The reason why I bring immigration is because one of the big factors has to do with population. Many of these immigrants moved to the big states as we know today such as New York, Florida, California, Texas, Washington, etc which created high populated states and cities. The economy strives off of these states because of the industries, land, infrastructure, and people. Many of the 1% of the richest in the United States live in these states and you can say that these states’ citizens are mostly well off due to the location they live in. If you were to abolish the laws of all the states and keep it federally ran only with federal laws, the economy will go downhill. People in let’s say Wyoming which has about 600,000 citizens according to state census is less than two times the population of Sacramento County. The people in Wyoming where the minimum wage is $7.25 (also the federal minimum wage) wouldn’t feel of big difference economically wise. However, in California if everybody was making $7.25, imagine how much more homeless people there would be. There are more jobs here, but how many stores would have to close down because they aren’t profiting and not generating enough revenue to strive. A reason why California is one of the most expensive places to live in is because of the businesses, the location, and the cultural diversity. If today we are making $15 in California minimum wage struggling to make ends meet and let’s say next week the state laws are to be abolished, the economy would be destroyed in California if we were only to make $7.25 a hour. The amount of jobs that will be lost due to not being able to make enough to sustain living in California would be detrimental and the country will be doomed since most of the the United States money comes from California.
