TOPIC: The four-year university is often presented as the only successful path toward a successful career, but high unemployment rates argue that students might be better off with trade schools and other job-focused education paths that are often looked down upon.

Topic In this essay you will present a well-researched analysis of a social problem and attempt to persuade the reader of what you see as the best solution to the problem. You may choose any topic, but be sure that it is focused enough so it is manageable in a short essay but also important enough to require thoughtful consideration and enable you to find research on it. The structure of the essay will be as follows (note that these represent sections of the paper, but each section may be made up of several paragraphs):
Attention: Show the importance of the topic and connect to your audience.
Need: Make the audience feel a need for a change. Use research to show how this problem affects people, how much it costs society, how it causes other problems. Think about the problem’s history, causes, and effects.
Satisfaction: Provide a solution that will address the problem. Address any criticism that could be leveled at this solution.
Visualization: Show the benefits of your solution.
Action: Develop a plan for action.
Format A minimum of five pages, typed and double spaced. You must use at least three sources in this essay. Cite and document sources using MLA format.

Grading
A Grade Paper : In an interesting, logical, persuasive, and well-researched essay, thoroughly explains the problem, its causes, and its possible solution and argues effectively for the best solution.
Essay is well researched, full of interesting, relevant, and persuasive examples, quotations, and statistics. Evidence comes from credible and reliable sources.
Quotes are gracefully introduced and correctly cited. Information from research is correctly documented. The essay draws on the required number of sources, and they are listed on the works cited page and correctly formatted.
Organization is strong and effective. Essay contains a well developed introductory paragraph with a clear, argumentative thesis statement. Body paragraphs have strong topic sentences that are ideas. The conclusion is thoughtful and well developed.
Essay contains few grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
