Tips

I have the following tips and recommendations that can help you in the process of completing this assignment.

1. Read the questions you will be responding to before watching the movie.
2. Look over your notes and the chapter 11 slides/videos to refresh your memory about small group terminology and concepts.
3. Watch the movie twice. The first time trying to get an overall perspective of the setting, characters, and plot. The second time watch with critical intent with the purpose of analyzing the group dynamics demonstrated in the movie.
4. Take notes while you watch.
5. Print out the communication assessments or write down your scores on a piece of paper to make calculations easier. Take care to read how to calculate your scores carefully and double-check your calculations are correct.
6. Make sure your response answers all parts of the question clearly. Refer to the rubric to see what an excellent response requires.
* The rubric can be found by selecting the Movie and Personal Analysis Assignment Link
7. Allow enough time to complete the assignment. The assignment has multiple parts and watching the movie will take time. Give yourself a minimum of 4 days to complete this. Waiting until the day the assignment is due to begin working on it is a bad plan. This is how I recommend approaching the assignment in a manageable and thorough manner:

Day One: Read over the assignment instructions, select a movie, and watch the movie for the first time.
Day Two: Review small group terms and concepts in chapter 11, read questions you will be responding to, watch the movie a second time while taking notes, and respond to questions 1-3 on the Movie and Personal Analysis Questions document.
Day Three: Complete the communication self-assessments, and respond to question 4 & 5 on the Movie and Personal Analysis Questions document.
Day Four: Review your responses while utilizing the scoring rubric to ensure they are of high quality, submit the Movie and Personal Analysis, and complete the Movie and Personal Analysis Debrief Discussion Board.
